The journey…

Well this is a long overdue update. Apart from the fact that we wanted to reach our destination as quickly as possible, this meant drive, drive and drive. Internet connectivity was also an issue. So finally here is the update…

After some consideration I am presenting the journey from Paderborn to Nouakchott in three stages, viz.

So the three stages are:

1. The European stage

2. The water stage

3. The African stage

Long over due update…

We have travelled about 1650 kms driving for about 16 hrs. This is just a short update, a detailed one might follow when we actually get a bed to rest.

Meanwhile here is a pic…

This is the gas station we are taking a break now… Inshallah we still have about 960 kms to the tip of Spain approx. 9 hrs. And we hope to get on the ferry some time forenoon today…

The night before…

Well, just a few hours left… very excited…

Inshallah, it should be fun that I expect, and a safe journey to and back…

The only thing I will be missing the most for the 10 days will be my family, first vacation with out them…

Allrighty! then, last packing to do, sleep (hopefully), and fresh for the drive.

The desert road trip (PAD–NKC)

Desert – the vast expanses of sand, is some thing which has always fascinated me. Finally, my dream of visiting such a desert and to top it all – Sahara, is, Inshallah about to be realised. To add to the spirit of adventure, it is a road trip!

The plan is to drive down south to the southern tip of Spain, hop on to a ferry to get across the Strait of Gibraltar. And for the final leg of the journey (which I thing would be the most interesting one) drive further south Morocco into Mauritania.

Details of the plan is highlighted below, updates of the journey will follow as it unfolds which will come in individual posts, so stay tuned…

Oh, yeh almost forgot to point out here – Visa’s. A German national does not need any visa to travel across Europe, Morocco as well as Western Sahara. But one needs visa for entry into Mauritania, which was duly applied and granted from the Mauritanian Embassy in Berlin. Postal application takes about 3-4 working days.
